Another Port Of Compile’s Shoot ‘Em Up Classic ‘Zanac’ Is Launching On Switch This Month

Zanac EX was an upgraded version of the classic game for MSX2 computers.

D4 Enterprise, the company behind the EGGCONSOLE series of retro reissues, has revealed the next classic title it will bringing to the Nintendo Switch will be Compile and Pony Canyon’s vertically-scrolling shoot ’em up Zanac EX.

Zanac EX is an MSX2 game that is occasionally referred to online as “a sequel” to the original MSX Zanac (including in the information shared with this latest announcement), but could perhaps be more accurately described as a slightly rearranged version of the previous title.

A Fan Translation Is In The Works For The Japan-Exclusive MSX2 RPG ‘Burai’

A demo will be available later this year.

Fans are currently hard at work translating the 1990 MSX2 version of the classic Riverhill Soft title Burai into English, according to the MSX enthusiast and programmer Max Iwamoto.

Burai (or Burai Joukan, as it is also called) is an RPG title that was originally released for the PC-88 in 1989, and was later ported to other platforms such as PC-98, FM-Town and MSX2 computers. It focuses on the story of eight warriors spread across the world who are suddenly entrusted with the task of saving the land from the followers of an evil god named Daar, and features a top-down perspective and turn-based battles typical of RPGs of the day.

The VGHF Is Set To Dump 125 Mystery Prototype ROMs Live On Stream

The creator of the Video Game History Foundation, Frank Cifaldi, has announced yesterday on social media that the 501(c)3 non-profit organization has recently come into possession of 125 mystery prototype ROMs, which are believed to originally be from Taito Japan.

And, better yet, the non-profit will be doing a livestream in a week’s time (on June 5th) where it will be dumping and analyzing their contents live on stream.
