Bun-Ga-Rua: watch the trailer for the spiritual successor to Yie Ar Kung-Fu – Revista Clube MSX

The Malaga MSX Meeting 2024 , which took place on September 7th in Malaga, Spain, had an extra special flavor. During it, the trailer for Otome Retsuken Bungarua (aka Bun-Ga-Rua ) was shown for the first time, a new fighting game for MSX2 that is being developed by Japanese Murakata Tohji .
Bun-Ga-Rua, which is already being considered a spiritual successor to Konami 's Yie Ar Kung-Fu franchise, has been attracting a lot of attention for its quality: a beautiful set of graphics, gameplay, audio, challenge and fun.
On social media, Tohji has been posting short videos over the last few months that show the progress of the game's development. And for those who haven't yet connected the pieces, the Japanese author of Singular Stone , an action RPG released in 2020 for MSX2 – and whose review of the game, including an interview with Tohji, was written by Paulo Vinícius Radtke (PV) and published in Clube MSX magazine nº 13 (see an excerpt from the interview here ).
The video of Bun-Ga-Rua
As mentioned before, Murakata Tohji has posted several short videos showing the progress of Bun-Ga-Rua. But this is the first time he has posted a trailer about the game. The video below, just over 4 minutes long, was posted on his YouTube channel and has Spanish subtitles.
The story of the game
In the game's lore, the protagonist Yulee receives kung-fu teachings from Lee (protagonist of the games Yie Ar Kung-Fu I and II) to face various challenges and a horde of enemies.
The game can be played in two modes: story mode, where there will be a longer journey and a password system to save your progress, and simple mode, where you face the game's opponents (like in the aforementioned Konami games).

Bun-Ga-Rua promises many fun moments, including bonus stages, references to other popular MSX games (such as Metal Gear ) and even a vending machine, where you can buy items to strengthen the game's heroine.
The title is scheduled to be released later this year. To run Bun-Ga-Rua, you will need an MSX2 or higher.
