Platty Soft ( Raftoid , SpaceCat and others), owned by Spanish developer Raul Portales , announced this Tuesday (17) the launch of I-LOGIC , a new platform game for MSX1 with a theme of fiction and the future. The title, available for free download, is a direct sequel to LOGIC , a game that Portales developed back in the 80s. “LOGIC was my first 'real' game, I wrote it in the late 80s, and only a few people played it, since at the time we had limited distribution channels”, he says.

Stories about our items rescued from the past are always welcome in the MSX community. And in this regard, Raul has a lot to offer – which makes perfect sense to reproduce here in full so that we can get to know LOGIC better and how it came to be in I-LOGIC. “After many years, in 2020, I recovered it from a cassette tape and improved some things, resulting in what became LOGIC Remastered . While doing this, I learned a lot and a few things happened: I realized that LOGIC didn't make the best use of the MSX's capabilities, which you can access with modern tools. I knew I could create a better platform game, but I didn't want to change the original game too much. The ending of LOGIC suggested a sequel, which I had completely forgotten about. I interpreted this as a challenge that I, at 12 years old, was imposing on myself. For I-LOGIC, I wanted to create a game with modern 'feel-good platforming' mechanics. Things like double jumps and wall jumps, which weren’t common in the 80s,” he explains.

About I-LOGIC and how to play

I-LOGIC puts players in control of the android LOGIC, who has just completed his PGD-4 training and is starting a new job at a large facility. The workday, however, doesn't go as planned: a power failure puts the facility into safe mode, and LOGIC must find his tools, restore power, and deal with a mysterious countdown that appears on the screen.

The player must explore the facility, solve puzzles and unlock new abilities through special items. The gameplay is non-linear, allowing players to freely explore different areas, with a good dose of backtracking and classic elements such as conveyor belts. Be careful not to combine conveyor belts with enemies (the circular saws give the message right at the beginning of the game). Also noteworthy is the protagonist's animation and the gameplay, which is quite enjoyable.
