And the MSX GotY 2024 goes to… Maiden's Extreme Fist «BUN-GA-RUA» . The fighting game for MSX2 developed by Japanese Tohji Murakata – and a true love letter to Konami 's Yie Ar Kung-Fu franchise – was elected game of the year 2024 by the Spanish blog MSXBlog .

The blog, led by the Spaniard José Andrés Gil , Konamito (read the interview we did with him in Clube MSX magazine nº 11 ), has been choosing the game of the year annually since 2013, within its MSX GotY ( MSX Game of the Year ), with criteria established by the blog itself.

The choices are usually very precise, judging by the winners of previous years: Pampas & Selene: The Maze of Demons (2023) , Lilly's Saga – The Stones of Wisdom (2022), Westen House (2021) and Ghost 'n Goblins (2020).

MSX GotY 2024: the winner Maiden's Extreme Fist

As already mentioned, Maiden's Extreme Fist «BUN-GA-RUA» is authored by Japanese Tohji Murakata , author of another recent and great game for MSX2, the action RPG Singular Stone , released in 2020.

Competing in MSXdev24 — and with a great chance of winning the 2024 edition of the classic MSX game development contest —, Maiden's Extreme Fist puts us in the shoes of the protagonist Yulee Menno , who must defeat Liangah , the leader of an evil clan that set fire to the place where she lives.

The title offers two game modes: you can play as if it were a classic Yie Ar Kung-Fu, or you can enjoy a much deeper and more elaborate story mode — which is the game mode that follows the story told above.

In addition to the challenge, the sad story and the nostalgia, good humor is another great ingredient in the game. For example, at different points in the game, the protagonist can eat ramen dishes (bought from vending machines) that will make her even stronger.

Murakata spared no effort in delivering what is already seen as one of the best MSX games of recent years.
