MSXdev24 #21 Q*bert – MSXdev Contest

Title: Q*bert
Genre: arcade, puzzle, action
Author(s): Jelle Roggen
Medium: DSK 720KB
Hardware requirements: MSX2

This arcade game is a revival of a classic created for the MSX2 system. Q*bert is well-known in the MSX community, as Konami had previously released their version. However, this MSXdev version is a more traditional adaptation of the original.

It took the author thirty years to release his homemade clone of the ever-popular Q*bert game. Although this entry was created back in the early nineties, it was only recently rediscovered by the author himself. He must have thought, why not show it to the world via the MSXdev competition? A good choice, indeed.

The concept of Q*bert is straightforward: turn all blocks to the same color by jumping on them. While that may sound simple, it would not be a challenge if it were. Therefore, other characters are introduced to hunt you and prevent you from achieving your goal. Avoid these adversaries and make clever manoeuvres, including the use of the spinning transporter devices. Just take caution not to plunge into the void.

Delivered on .dsk format, this MSX2 game uses the keyboard cursor keys to get your hero jumping.

Did you enjoy this MSXdev game? Well, why not consider donating to the prize money or sponsor the winner’s-loot-box by submitting a physical reward? 100% of the donations will go to the developers.
