MSXdev24 Overview | MSX Resource Center

The long-running game competition MSXdev has just closed its doors for contestants to register their new game. Yielding a fruitful amount of just over 30 new MSX games, the MSXdev24 can be called a grand succes indeed. It is now juror time!

Have you enjoyed the ongoing MSXdev24 edition so far? We certainly did! Who could have thought that 40 years after its debut, the MSX computer system would remain an attractive platform for game developers to work on. The affection and enduring vitality towards this 8-bit marvel is undeniable. With MSXdev returning 31 new MSX games in 2024/2025, this is more than just a warm fuzzy feeling; it is absolutely breath taking and proves that the system is running hot!

So, what did the MSXdev24 deliver? Their edition, called “Freestyle”, accepted all games that would run on any MSX using any piece of extra hardware. A case of all or nothing, the full Monty, no borders. Sure MSXdev might have started out as a platform for only MSX1 16KB games, which was great, but for sure this new style certainly brought interesting entries. Just look at this massive list for yourself:

See? Massive indeed! More than 30 new games for MSX, wow! Props to all contestants daring to enter, you’ve done a great job. The compo is for and by the community, and the community is strong. And not only in delivering new entertainment.

The MSXdev is a tournament, and with that come prices. And its that same awesome community that delivers just that by donating money and dropping sponsored items into the match. Again, awesome! While the jurors are examining all games, there is still time for you to make a donation, if you haven’t already.
