The organization of MSXdev , the traditional game development competition for MSX, announced the closing of registrations for the 2024 edition. With an impressive total of 31 new games registered, MSXdev24 reinforces that MSX, more than 40 years after the launch of the standard, remains strong and steady in various corners of the world.

This year's MSXdev edition adopted a "freestyle" format, allowing any game to be entered, as long as it was compatible with the MSX. This ranges from simple MSX1 titles with 16 kB to more complex games that use advanced hardware, including external extensions. See the full list at the end of the post.

When will the MSXdev24 winner be announced?

The next step in this year's edition of the competition is the evaluation of the games submitted. The judges have until March 14, 2025 to evaluate criteria such as gameplay, graphics, soundtrack and others. The final result will be announced to the public on March 28, 2025.

As a prize, the total amount raised in donations will be divided among the top 4 places, with the winner receiving 40% of the amount, and the second, third and fourth place winners receiving, respectively, 30%, 20% and 10% of the amount. In addition, each competitor will have the chance to win a sponsored item of their choice, starting with the first place winner, followed by the next winners.

From reinvented classics to very original titles, the list of games entered in MSXdev24 is quite diverse. And we even have some Brazilian titles competing. Below are the competitors listed in order of entry, where Princess Paloma's Rescue was the first game entered in the 2024 edition and Doomlings was the 31st entry.
