The joy to wiggle sticks

The MSXdev24-Winners-Loot-Box has been graced with a new treasure: the Pixel Memories Pasoko-1000 tribute joystick from Stand Up Gaming, a homage to the iconic joystick of the eighties.

Operating under the brand Pixel Memories, Chris Brooks crafts an array of retro gaming memorabilia utilizing contemporary methods and tools such as 3D printing. Chris has already contributed a Pixel Memories piece to the MSXdev24 prize pool and has now added another, with his most recent creation being a replica of the Sanwa Pasoko-1000 joystick—a tribute piece that any winner would be thrilled to receive.

The Japanese joystick manufacturer, Sanwa Denshi Corporation, which remains active today, specializes in premium joystick components for gaming cabinets and has also launched their own custom joysticks. Among these is the 1985 Pasoko-1000, a multi-machine joystick notable for its stick and two-button configuration. In homage to this classic joystick, Pixel Memories has crafted a replica compatible for both MSX and C64 computers, utilizing the original manufacturer’s parts. The result is a stunning piece of retro hardware.

Stand Up Gaming’s Pixel Memories products evoke the nostalgia of classic gaming days through a variety of forms and formats, including dioramas, lightboxes, and joysticks. A real treat for any retro gaming enthusiast. The addition of the new joystick series to their lineup is certain to garner even more interest in the initiative.

Having one of these Pixel Memories Pasoko-1000 joysticks in the loot box leaves no excuse not to enter the competition, as this wonderful MSX-exclusive hardware is a must-have. Thanks to Chris for this exceptional contribution to the list of sponsored items!

To explore additional Pixel Memories, consider browsing the Joystick products or the dioramas. For inquiries, contact Chris Brooks via e-mail.

openMSX updated with new interface (v 20.0) openMSX is the oldest MSX emulator . It's been with us for many years, and while it's had a reputation for being somewhat cumbersome to use by some less experienced users (myself included), today it's by far the best alternative to using a real machine. Throughout its existence, it has had to compete with other competitors (fMSX, ruMSX, MarsMSX Meisei, BlueMSX, etc.) that haven't made things easy for it. The latter, BlueMSX, was my choice for a long time due to its user-friendly interface and ease of use, without having to install the BIOS for the different MSX models ( System ROMs ), for example. When BlueMSX stopped being updated, I decided to give openMSX a try, better understanding how it worked in order to take full advantage of the huge number of options it has. This way, I managed to forget about BlueMSX and embrace openMSX as my favorite emulator to this day. This version 20.0 of openMSX debuts a new graphical user interface that is a complete revolution. The debugger and Catapult, which until now were separate programs, are now integrated into the emulator itself . Although they will continue to be available for download from the emulator's official website, the team has already announced that they will no longer be updating them. All the options of these Catapult and the debugger are integrated into openMSX. In addition, all the other options offered by the emulator are now accessible via a menu bar at the top of the screen. It couldn't be more convenient and simple. I'm very glad that openMSX has taken the path of being more user-friendly with an interface that, while not spectacular, more than meets expectations in a program like this. The path has already been laid out, and we'll see how it evolves in upcoming updates. A full description of the updates and changes made in this version can be found at this link .
