The classic 1996 MSX game Tetris II has been revamped to Setris II as a MegaROM, featuring new enhancements, bug fixes, and additional content. This game, drawing inspiration from a renowned gaming concept, utilizes the capabilities of both MSX2 and MSX2+ with added OPL4 support and is now accessible at Cote Gamers.

Imagine the dawn of computer gaming, a time when new game concepts were introduced and old ones revitalized. This era also marked the beginning of the homebrew or indie game development scene. Developers would spend hours at their home computers crafting wonderful video games, some heavily inspired by existing titles, others completely new creations. Does this ring a bell? If you’re an early MSX user, it likely does. This was the period when the Italian MSX scene group RAM developed their Tetris II game for the MSX2 system. Now, 30 years later, they have taken the original files and elevated them to an entirely new level. Introducing, Setris II.

Setris II, as the name suggests, is a Tetris clone with unique features. The original version was released on three disks, but the latest edition is available on a MegaRom cartridge, which is compatible with both hardware and emulators. It operates on MSX2 and offers enhanced graphics on MSX2+ or above and requires 256KB RAM with 128KB VRAM. New features include Moonsound support—retaining the original FM sound—new tiles, combo moves, a 1P vs CPU mode, magical effects with subtitles, VDP effects, and numerous bug fixes, all contributing to its appeal. And, if you where wondering, Setris stands for Stacking Endless Tiles Rises Intuitive Skills 🙂

The authors and the French publisher Côté Gamers are excited to present Setris II, available in both regular and premium editions. Each version includes a durable cardboard box with inlays, a full-color instruction manual, and fact sheets. The regular edition is priced at 35 euros, and the premium edition, which comes in a plastic container, is offered at 50 euros, excluding shipping costs.

Pre-ordering the game is available on the Cote Gamers website. Please note that the initial shipment of games is scheduled to conclude by the end of November. You have the option to collect the game at the forthcoming PISA MSX DEVCON 24 on November 16th.
