The Goonies now sounds like the movie on our MSX

Thanks to the work of Mauricio Braga, we can enjoy the timeless MSX classic The Goonies on our MSX sounding like never before.
And it does so thanks to the magic of the MSX-Pico device, which allows the playback of WAV audio tracks on the MSX, accompanying the game in a fluid and almost natural way. This transforms the familiar PSG melodies into much more sophisticated ones, closer to the soundtrack of the film on which it is based. These melodies are the work of Jorrith Schaap, who created them for the PC remake by Braingames and Riva Lima (Stereokromatik).
Of course, the sound effects remain as they were in the 1985 original. And as an extra, if you run The Goonies on an MSX2, the color palette changes compared to a first-generation MSX.
The process to achieve all this is quite simple, as it is only necessary to download the patch and modify the game's ROM file, which must match one of the following hashes :
- SHA256: dde9aacde7f061c62ba93c34b9edfdb3a54fe8289b53dac72a2fc6826c03a841
- SHA1: 250D0D6E646EAE4817802C49E367AD8C1C35A462
- MD5: e25e87aecc04f4e5047b9af12135cde1
Then the music must be placed together with the modified ROM in the same directory on the MSX-Pico memory card and everything would be ready to work correctly.
Check out the video at the end of this post where Mauricio himself shows us the notable difference between "before" and "after."
