The creators of Pixel Memories have unveiled a new addition to the MSX joystick lineup. Stand Up Gaming’s Pasoko-1000 tribute joystick pays homage to the classic eighties joystick, featuring a single stick and two buttons, primed for gaming enthusiasts.

In the realm of MSX gaming, enthusiasts are divided into two groups: those who prefer the keyboard and those who favor the joystick. The keyboard may be a standard feature, but the joystick is a beloved add-on that comes in various shapes and styles. A quintessential MSX joystick features a stick and at least two buttons, often including an auto-fire option. Exciting news for joystick aficionados: a new model has emerged, paying homage to the classic 1980s joystick, the Pasoko-1000.

The Pasoko-1000, an innovative hardware device, was developed by the Japanese firm Sanwa Denshi Corporation, known for their high-quality joystick components for arcade cabinets. Stand Up Gaming sourced these components from the original supplier and reimagined the iconic joystick under the Pixel Memories label. The outcome is an impressive MSX hardware piece that is bound to excite MSX gamers.

Pixel Memories is known for their range of 3D-printed dioramas and lightboxes, which draw inspiration from classic games across different consoles. The addition of a new line of joysticks to their collection further extends the brand’s reach into retro nostalgia.

MSX joysticks come in two or three-button variants, wired with pin 8 for complete MSX compliance. All joysticks feature Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons and are equipped with either genuine or compatible Sanwa JLF joystick levers. A variety of colors is available for selection. Check out this page with photos of different versions. For additional details and pricing on the Pasoko1000 replica, please visit the Pixel Memories shop.

Happy wiggling!

openMSX updated with new interface (v 20.0) openMSX is the oldest MSX emulator . It's been with us for many years, and while it's had a reputation for being somewhat cumbersome to use by some less experienced users (myself included), today it's by far the best alternative to using a real machine. Throughout its existence, it has had to compete with other competitors (fMSX, ruMSX, MarsMSX Meisei, BlueMSX, etc.) that haven't made things easy for it. The latter, BlueMSX, was my choice for a long time due to its user-friendly interface and ease of use, without having to install the BIOS for the different MSX models ( System ROMs ), for example. When BlueMSX stopped being updated, I decided to give openMSX a try, better understanding how it worked in order to take full advantage of the huge number of options it has. This way, I managed to forget about BlueMSX and embrace openMSX as my favorite emulator to this day. This version 20.0 of openMSX debuts a new graphical user interface that is a complete revolution. The debugger and Catapult, which until now were separate programs, are now integrated into the emulator itself . Although they will continue to be available for download from the emulator's official website, the team has already announced that they will no longer be updating them. All the options of these Catapult and the debugger are integrated into openMSX. In addition, all the other options offered by the emulator are now accessible via a menu bar at the top of the screen. It couldn't be more convenient and simple. I'm very glad that openMSX has taken the path of being more user-friendly with an interface that, while not spectacular, more than meets expectations in a program like this. The path has already been laid out, and we'll see how it evolves in upcoming updates. A full description of the updates and changes made in this version can be found at this link .
