VSCode MSX Dev Extension for sprites

MRC user Fausto Pracek has released a Visual Studio Code extension called the MSXDevTool Extension, designed for game developers working with MSX computers. This extension allows users to graphically create and manage MSX sprites. A unique way of using VSC and dedicated to the love of creating MSX content. The tool is freely available at the visualStudio store.

Visual Studio Code, commonly known as VS Code, is a lightweight, open-source code editor developed by Microsoft. It is popular among developers for its versatility and extensive features, including MSX developers. Its support for multiple programming languages, including Z80, makes this a well loved editor to cross-develop new content for our beloved system. The option to integrate custom extensions made Italian software developer Fausto Pracek, or fpracek here on MRC, created an MSX sprite editor for VSC.

This extension was developed to facilitate the creation of graphic objects for games on MSX computers. allows users to draw, import, and modify spritesboth type1 and type 2), tiles, fonts, and PNG images. Data arrays for use in C,X, Assembly, Pascal, and MSX-B can be exported these items or even synchronize the arrays directly in the source files . Additionally, there is a feature to test the movement of the sprites immediately.

The extension is open-source, hosted on GitHub, and available for free on the Visual Studio Marketplace. The developer invites contributions to improve and expand the project.
