A team of indie coders is producing an amazing-looking Castlevania-inspired title for the MSX2 home computer, and it feels like the closest thing we’re going to get to a new entry in Konami’s vampire-hunting series.
Developed by the Bad Landed team, Nightstalker: Shadow of the Ancestors is an action platformer which clearly takes a massive amount of influence from the classic Castlevania titles on the NES. Some of the sprites are very similar, as is the music.

A Chinese company called 8086YES!, which was previously behind the Pocket386 and Pocket8086, has recently announced a new portable MSX2-compatible laptop computer, which is being referred to online as the MSXBOOK (thanks 4Gamer!).
According to the page for the new machine, the unofficial device is based on the One Chip MSX (OCM), which was released back in 2006, but has been reconfigured into a portable form factor that makes it easier to use on the go. It features a 9.7-inch LCD screen upcycled from an iPad 2, capable of outputting a 1024×768 resolution image, as well as a backlit mechanical keyboard.

Riverhill Soft’s BURAI Joukan will be released in Japan early this Summer.
Earlier this month, the Tokyo-based developer and publisher Mebius announced a new series of MSX reissues for the Nintendo Switch, in Japan, with the first of these scheduled to be a rerelease of the MSX2 version of the RPG BURAI Joukan (thanks Famitsu!)
BURAI Joukan, in case you’ve never heard of it, is a title that focuses on the story of eight warriors spread across the world who are suddenly entrusted with the task of saving a land from the followers of an evil god named Daar. It was initially released for the PC-88 and PC-98 in 1989 and was later ported in 1990 to the MSX2 and FM Towns.
